Guidelines on commercial publicity on trains have been advised vide
commercial circular no. 36 of 2006 & 25 of 2007. The source of earnings through
commercial publicity on trains particularly special trains (Summer, Winter, Puja, Holiday
Special trains) has not been fully exploited as these Special trains run only for a limited
period.

With a view to increase the earnings through this source, Board desire that the
special trains i.e. summer /pooja /winter/holiday specials etc may also be exploited fully for
earnings through commercial publicity by following the guidelines given below.

 PUBLICITY ON SPECIAL TRAINS:

Special trains run only for a limited period and there is not enough response for
advertisements on such trains. These trains have only the train number and do not bear any
name. Such trains may be advertised for branding and may include a package of advertising
rights. Open tenders may be called for the purpose. The advertising rights under the
Branded Train may include the following:
Brand-Train

The logo or brand name in text (limited to reasonable no. of characters) of the
company may be advertised on the train with the following scope:
Areas of display:

iii)

iv)

ix)

The brand name may be approved by the GMs who should take into account local
sensitivities of the traveling public. The message through advertisements should not be
socially offensive and should be in keeping with public morality. Advertisements regarding
intoxicants, cigarettes, bidis and other tobacco products etc. are strictly prohibited.

Care may be taken to ensure that advertisements do not interfere/obstruct the coach
no. or any other passengers’ related information and do not spoil the aesthetics. The coach
must be returned to its original condition after the expiry of the contract period by the party
which has taken the advertising rights.

The above scheme should be tried as a pilot project for next six months so that a
review may be taken in the matter.

Kindly acknowledge receipt of the letter. Action taken report should be submitted at
the earliest for information of Board.
