  Sub: Amendment in Tatkal Scheme  
 
  Ref:  Board’s letter of even number dated 28.9.2007(Commercial Circular 
No. 76 of 2007) 
 
 
 
 
 
      
Please refer to Board’s letter of even number dated 18.06.2008 (Commercial 
Circular No. 40 of 2008) on the subject quoted above wherein it was advised that the 
scheme of giving facility to   waitlist passengers of trains having less than 50% tatkal 
quota utilization to opt for Tatkal Scheme at the time of buying their ticket even before 
start of Advance Reservation Period (ARP) of Tatkal booking for that train,   should 
continue for another 6 months i.e. upto 30.11.2008.   Zonal Railways were also requested 
to send feedback of the scheme for the period upto 31.8.2008 so as to reach this office 
latest by 30.9.2008 to enable a final decision being taken in the matter.   The feedback 
from Central, , East-Central, Northeast .Frontier, Southern,  South Eastern, North 
Western & West-Central   Railways has not been received so far due to which a final 
decision in this regard could not be taken.

It has, therefore, been decided to continue with the scheme for the journeys 
commencing upto 31.05.2009.  All Zonal Railways which have not sent the feedback  of 
the scheme are requested to send the feedback without further delay.  
 
3.  
All the Zonal Railways and CRIS should ensure that the scheme does not get 
extended beyond the above mentioned date unless expressly instructed/extended by 
Railway Board.  
 
4. 
This issues with the concurrence of Finance Directorate of Ministry of Railways.
