Sub:  Clarification on Tatkal Scheme.

Please refer to para (viii) of this office letter No. 2003/TG.I/20/P/Tatkal 
dated 12-04-2006 (Commercial Circular No. 35 of 2006) wherein it has been 
advised that in those trains and in those classes where average utilization of 
Tatkal accommodation during six months period i.e. April to September is 80% 
and above, Tatkal charges applicable during peak period should be charged 
throughout the year i.e. for both peak and non peak periods.  
 
 
Attention is also invited to para 3 of this office letter of even number  
dated 26.06.2008 (Commercial Circular Number 38 of 2008) wherein the 
powers for earmarking of Tatkal accommodation in different classes have 
been delegated to Zonal Railways keeping in view the utilization pattern in that 
class during the previous financial year as well as availability of 
accommodation.  
 
 
East Coast Railway while referring to these instructions has sought a 
clarification regarding time period which should be taken into account for 
deciding the trains in which Tatkal charges of peak period are to be realized 
throughout the year. 
 
 
Accordingly the matter has been reviewed and the following is clarified:-  
  
a) In those trains in which Zonal Railways, after review, have decided to 
earmark the Tatkal quota based upon average utilization of more than 
80% during the previous financial year, peak period Tatkal charges will 
be realized throughout the year.

b) In other trains, Zonal Railways will realize peak period Tatkal charges 
during peak period and non peak period Tatkal charges during non 
peak period.
