Sub: Amendment in Tatkal Scheme.

Please refer to Board’s letter of even mgnber dated 26/08/2004 (Commercial
Circular No.33 of 2004) wherein the revised Tatkal scheme was intimated. In
continuation of various amendments notified vide this office letters of even number dated
03/11/2005, 21.11.2005, 08.12.2005 and 26.12.2005, the matter has further reviewed
and the following amendments are proposed in the existing Tatkal scheme
3) A flat refund of 25% of total fare charged on the ticket, excluding Tatkal
' charges may be granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets.

departure of the train. Thereafter, no refund may be granted on
cancellation of confirmed Tatkal ticket except under the conditions
-. prescribed in para 9 of Board's letter of even number dated 26.08.2004

ii) If Tatkal quota at the originating station is vacant, the same is to be
released to waitlisted passengers under the general quota at the
originating station rather than transfer it to the Tatkai Quota of
intermediate stations.
iii) | Whenever an extra coach is attached in a particular train, vacant berths
available in that extra coach after confirming all wait listed passengers of
general class should be allotted to Tatka! waitlisted passengers of that
class.
iv) The existing ARP of three days under Tatkal scheme may be extended to
five days exctuding the day of journey
v) | Cancellations done in the general booking should confirm general and
Tatkal writing lists alternately. However, alternative confirmations
should commence only after the waiting Jist under Tatkal
accommodation starts. Prior to that, the berths should be allotted to
passengers in the waiting list under the general quota. It is aiso
suggested that in case there is no waiting list under Tatkal at 8 particular
point of time, the berths available due to cancellations under the genera!
quota should be allotted to the passengers under the goneral quota and in
case there is no waiting list under the general quota and all the
passengers under the general quota have been confirmed, but there ts

waiting list in Tatkai, the berths available due to cancellation under the
general quota should be allotted to the Tatka! passengers at the time of
preparation of charts.
vi) In those trains where average utilization of Tatkal accommodation during
six months period is 80% and above, accommodation to be earmarked
under Tatkal scheme should be enhanced as under:-

Zona! railways should fix Tatkal quota keeping in view the number of
. berths actually available under general quota after taking into account various
quotas already available. it may be ensured that after earmarking of enhanced
Tatka! accommodation in such cases, adequate number of berths should also be
available for booking across the counter
All efforts should be made by Railway to define ali Tatkal quotas in the
same coach. However, if the quota is more than one coach, it can spill over to
the next adjacent coach
_ vii) in those trains where utilization of Tatka! is less than 50%, the number of
berths under Tatkal may be reduced to half.
viii) In those trains and in those classes where average utilization of Tatkal
accommodation during six months period 1.6. April to September is 80% and
above, Tatkal charges applicable during peak period should be charged through
