What are Passenger Amenities ?
ON-BOARD AMENITIES: The on-board minimum facilities to be provided to the passengers, while on board a train includes amenities and fittings which should be maintained in proper condition so as to give comfortable services. These include: Lighting and fans, Cushioned berths and seats, Toilets, External fittings such as, reservation chart display plates, destination boards. Long distance trains will have Conductors/Coach Attendants/Train Superintendents/ Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTEs) to assist the passengers and for attending to their complaints and grievances.

All Railway stations are categorized in to 3 Categories.
Based on Annual Passenger earnings at that Station.
Outward passengers boarded at that Station.
Reviewed once in 5 Years.

Railway Stations are broadly categorized into 3 Types:

1. Non Sub urban Grade (NSG)
2. Sub Urban Grade (SG)
3. Halt Grade (HG)

ANNUAL PASSENGER EARNINGS (APE)
Annual Passenger Earnings is an important parameter for deciding upon the category of a station and outward passengers handled at the station. It consists of earnings from both reserved and unreserved passengers.
The earnings are to be calculated on the basis of the number of passengers boarding at a particular station (both reserved and unreserved) irrespective of the location from where the ticket has been issued.
The data of passenger earnings should be collected from PRS, UTS, SPTM and JTBS etc.,
