Revision of Passenger Fares – Railway Budget 2007-08 First Class fares: There will be no reduction in the fares for first class
- 1 - MOST IMMEDIATE Budget Instructions GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS RAILWAY BOARD) COMMERCIAL CIRCULAR NO. 31 OF 2007 No.TCII/2910/2007. New Delhi, dated 23.03.2007 The General Managers (Comml.), All Indian Railways. Sub: Revision of Passenger Fares – Railway Budget 2007-08. As announced by Minister for Railways in his Budget speech while presenting the Railway Budget for 2007-08, it has been decided to reduce the fares for certain classes, under the Dynamic Pricing Policy, as under: 2.1 Fares for Second class: (i) Non-Suburban: The chargeable basic fares for second class single journey tickets issued in non-suburban sections for travel by ordinary Passenger trains and Mail/Express trains, other than Superfast Mail/Express trains, shall be reduced by Re. 1/- per passenger for all distances. This reduction in fares will be in addition to the second class fares already reduced by Re. 1/- per passenger w.e.f. 12.8.2005, vide Board’s Telemax No. TCII/2910/2005 dated 12.8.2005. (ii) Suburban: There will be no change in the second class fares applicable in Suburban Sections. However, the fare reduced only by Re. 1/- per passenger in terms of Board’s Telemax No. TCII/2910/2005 dated 12.8.2005 and clarifications issued thereunder, will continue. 2.2 Fares for other classes: (a) New Designed High Capacity Coaches: The basic fares for the New Designed High Capacity Coaches of different classes, wherever attached, will be reduced as under: Reduction in fares Class Capacity of the Coach Peak period Lean period Popular Trains throughout the year Sleeper 84 berther 4% 4% 4% AC Chair Car 102 seater 4% 8% 4% AC 3-tier 81 berther 4% 8% 4% - 2 - (b) Conventional Coaches: The basic fares for conventional coaches, other than those mentioned under para 2.2 (a), will be reduced as under: Reduction in fares Class Peak period Lean period Popular Trains throughout the year AC First 3% 6% 3% AC 2-tier 2% 4% 2% AC 3-tier nil nil nil AC Chair Car nil nil nil Sleeper nil nil nil (c) Popular Trains: List of popular trains, where reduction in fares shown in the above tables will be applicable throughout the year irrespective of Peak/Lean period, will be sent separately. 3. Lean & Peak period: For the purpose of reduction in fares mentioned under para 2.2 (a) & (b) above, the Lean & Peak periods are as under: Lean Period 15th January to 15th April and 15th July to 15th September. Busy Period 16th April to 14th July and 16th September to 14th January. 4. Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi Express trains: The basic fares of Rajdhani Express trains shall be reduced for AC 2-tier and AC First (conventional coaches) as per para 2.2(b). Fares for new designed high capacity coaches, whenever attached to Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi trains shall also be reduced as per para 2.2(a). 5. Garib Rath Express trains: There shall be no reduction in the fares for Garib Rath Express trains for any class of travel. 6. First Class fares: There will be no reduction in the fares for first class tickets. 7. Rounding off of Basic fare: After reduction, the total basic fare shall continue to be rounded off as per extant rules. 8. Calculation of fares for adults, children & concessions: To arrive at the per passenger adult basic fare, the fare calculated as per the fares shown in Fare Table, shall be reduced accordingly (as mentioned above) and rounded off as per rules. The fares for children and various concessions, as admissible under the rules, shall then be worked out as per the reduced basic adult fares and rounded off again as per rules. 9. Minimum Fare: There shall be no change in the Minimum Fares for any class of travel. However in the case of second class in non-suburban - 3 - sections, the minimum fare for ord
