## PARCEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (PMS) Project PMS implemented in10 Stations on NEW DELHI and HOWRAH corridor RAILWAY Board sanctioned 2crores for pilot project PMS was started to NDLS parcel office on 1st November 2006 Implemented successfully at NR---New Delhi, Delhi NCR--Kanpur, Allahabad ECR-- Gaya, Patna, Danapur, Mughalsarai ER-Howrah,Sealdah ## Main features * Direct capture of parcel weight electronically * Universal window for all destination for booking * Single window for weighment & cash payment * Advance unloading guidance about inward parcel from the system at destination * Tracking parcel with help of barcode technology * Train Master entry along with scales by Railways * Parcel website” [www.parcel.indianrail.gov.in](http://www.parcel.indianrail.gov.in)” # PMS INFRASTRUCTURE AND SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE  # MODULES:  ### FORWARDING NOTE With the help of electronic weighing machine weight of parcel is directly captured and sent to the system in this module. After complete information of consignment is filled, a unique Forwarding Note No. is generated.   ### BOOKING OF PARCEL ,LUGGAGE AND VP Forwarding Note No. generated is fed into booking module thereby details of consignment to be booked by party comes into screen and freight is calculated automatically. A unique 10 digit number called PRR (progressive reference number) is generated.   ### USE OF BARCODES Bar code labels generated for all the packages booked against each PRR. * Bar code labels are pasted on outward parcel for marking. * Barcode labels contain information about the parcel in coded form. ADVANTAGE OF BARCODES: * Proves technology * Easy to use * Cost effective item wise tracking is possible * Unlike RFID not susceptible to electronic interference ### LOADING * On selection of train no loading system displays all the parcel available for dispatch for a particular destination in a particular train scale. * Based on selection of packages , loading guidance is generated .Packages are sent to platform for loading along with loading guidance. * Parcel can be loaded after scanning by barcode scanner and loading summary is recorded.   ### UNLOADING * Destination station has advance unloading guidance * Inward packages can be scanned on arrival at platform to generate unloading summary.  ### INWARD GODOWN * Inward packages scanned on entry in Inward godown for godown management ### DELIVERY * For Delivery when Consignee approaches the parcel office along with PMS original railway receipt. The PRR no found on the receipt is fed by the delivery clerk in the delivery module. * All the delivery details with charges is displayed on the screen. * The delivery receipt is generated by the delivery clerk. * Goods are delivered to the customer against delivery receipt after updation of inventory in inward godown. ### TRACKING OF PARCELS THROUGH ONLINE * Parcel and Luggage tracking online system * Customers can track the status of their parcels online at <http://www.parcel.indrail.gov.in> using the PRR No. found on the parcel receipt.  ### MIS REPORT * Report on parcel transactions like destination wise summary ,counter wise summary ,left over packages summary and various other report can be generated by system.  ### SYSTEM ADMINSTRATION AND MASTER MAINTAINENCE * This module helps in creating user database ,adjusting the stationery no. , logging out the user etc . * Station master and train master details are updated by database administrator at CRIS/NDLS * Party master ,lease party and contract master ,FSLA party and D list master etc are maintained by parcel officer supervisor.
