Replacement of ATVMs having kernel version below 3.1 - reg (below 3.1 kernel version) with latest kernel version of 4.18.x.

Ref: 1. This office letter of even number dated 27.05.2024. 2. GM/UTS/CRIS letter no. CRIS/HQ/PRJT/241/2023-UTS dated 03.06.2024. This office vide above reference (1), had already intimated Zonal Railways to ensure the availability of compatible thin clients i.e. Kernel version 3.1 and above by end of June, 2024 for smooth working of QR code-based payment. 2. Now CRIS vide above reference (2) (copy enclosed), has informed that for smooth working of QR payment at ATVMs, ATVMs should also have latest kernel version 4.18.x. 3. Apropos to above, Zonal Railways may kindly upgrade/ replace their ATVMs having kernel version below 3.1 with the latest kernel version 4.18.x as suggested by CRIS for uninterrupted QR code-based payment. Ref:- (i) CAOPTS letter no. CAO/PTS/113/UTS/MODERNIZATION/IR/2018/PT-1 dated 19.02.2024. (ii) CRIS letter no. CRIS/HQ/PRJT/30/2023-UTS dated 16.02.2024 & 15.05.2024. (ii) CRIS letter no. 2021/CRIS/NDLS-HQ/ PRS/Project/MOC2/0388 dated 21.01.2022. (iv) CRIS letter no. CRIS/HO/PLCY/5/2023-UTS dated 10.07.2023. CRIS vide above cited letters ref. at (i) informed that QR payment through QR display device can be enabled only in thin clients having kernel version 3.1 & above. Integration with QR display device is not feasible in old thin clients having kernel version below 3.1 and dumb terminals. CRIS vide letters ref. at (ii) & (iv) has already informed the Zonal Railways about the latest specifications of thin clients and ATVMs. Copy to: CAOPTS vide letter ref. at (i) also communicated to all Zonal Railways for replacement of old thin clients having kernel version below 3.1 and dumb terminals so that QR payment can be enabled at all counters of Indian Railways. It is further stated that still thin clients at counters and ATVMs are running with kernel version below 3.1. Since kernel version below 3.1 (i.e. 2.6 kernel version) is outdated, therefore, no further development is possible on thin clients and ATVMs having kernel version below 3.1. CRIS is developing applications under UTS Modernization and these applications will not run on thin clients and ATVMs having kernel version 2.6. Dated: 03.06.2024 CAOPTS is requested to advise all Zonal Railways to replace old thin clients & ATVMs (below 3.1 kernel version) with latest kernel version of 4.18.x. across all Zonal Railways for smooth running of QR payment at counters and Modernized UTS applications. 1.
