With reference to 1 & 2 above, it was requested that Railways needs to use new browser-
based application of National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and phase out the use of existing
dumb terminals for NTES applications for face-to-face enquiries at stations etc. This new
browser-based web application for NTES terminal clients is already being used at more than 200
locations on PAN India basis by various IR Zones (ECR, NFR, NWR, WR, WCR, SWR, SCR,
CR, NR, ECOR).
With reference to 3 above, CRIS data center at IRCA, New Delhi will be dismantled shortly
due to remodeling of the New Delhi Railway station. This data center is having NTES server which
is serving face to face enquiry of almost 15 divisions of IR Zones (NR, NCR, and NER) through
dumb terminal and these locations will be impacted due to this work. NWR has already fully
migrated to New “Web based NTES enquiry Client’’ and they are using this browser-based
client for more than 1 year and these users will not be impacted from this remodeling work of the
New Delhi Railway station. Therefore, other locations are also requested to start using New “Web
based NTES enquiry Client” as soon as possible so that to avoid any kind of inconvenience due
to above work.
Moreover, it is re-iterated that dumb terminals are getting obsolete and no longer in
production by HW provides/Vendors. Even PRS & UTS are gradually migrating to thin clients
with Web browser Support as default. New “Web based NTES enquiry Client” can run on both
UTS & public network. The new web client provides additional information including existing
features.
For migration activity necessary hardware i.e. web browser based Thin Client/ PC set
(technical specification, Annexure - II) having facility for multiple tabs will be required and are
to be arranged locally by Zonal/ Divisional Railways. The required specifications of the said Thin
Client set was already shared as Annexure - II with above mentioned letter dated 29.08.2022.The
