Sub: Earmarking of separzte reservation counters for Ladies. -

Instructions were issued vide this office letter No. 96/TG.I/20/P dated 20.2.1996
advising zonal railways that separate reservation counters are required to be earmarked
for senior citizens, ex. MPs, MLAs. Physically handicapped, accredited journalists,
freedom fighters, if the ticket demand per shift is not less than 120 tickets. In case, there
is no justification for earmarking of exclusive counter for any of these categories of
persons, one or two counters depending upon total demands are earmarked for dealing
. with the reservation requests of all these categories of persons. As regard earmarking of
separate counters for ladies, in:tructions were issued vide this office letter No.
95/TG.1/20/P dated 17.8.95 wherein railways were advised that at reservation offices
_ which have not been computerised and where separate counters are not in existence for:

ladies, ladies seeking reservation for themselves and also for other female passengers
should not be compelled to join the general queues and be attended to separately at the —
same counter as for general passengers. A suitable notice Board about the availability of
this facility should also be displayed near the reservation counter,

It is understood that separate reservation counters are being earmarked at
important computerised reservation offices for dealing with the ladies. It has been
reported that on the counters earmarked for ladies, some ladies purchase ticket in favour
of male passengers only on regular basis for pecuniary benefits.

In view of above, the issue of earmarking of separate reservation counter for:
ladies has been examined in this office and it has been decided as under:-

(a) At computerised reservation office, a separate reservation counter should be
earmarked for the ladies if the average demand per shift-is not less than’ 120
tickets. कि

(b) In case, there is no justification for earmarking of exclusive counter for ladies,

the requests received from ladies should be dealt with along with the

reservation requests of the specific categories mentioned above viz. Senior
Citizen, Physically handicapped ete.

(0) At those reservation offices which have not been computerised and where
separate counters are not in existence for ladies, female passengers should not
be compelled to join the general queues and be attended to separately at the |
same counter as for general passengers. A suitable notice Board about the
availability of this facility should also be displayed near the reservation -
counter. —~ . g .

(d) Ladies may be allowed to purchase tickets from these counters it respective of —
persons for whom the reservation is being sought. However, no other persons
will be allowed to purvhase ticket for them from these counters

Zonal Railways should, however, ensure that a constant ‘watch is kept on this |
Separate reservation counter earmarked for-ladies to avoid the misuse of this facility
Necessary instructions may be issued te all concerned and receipt of this letter may
please be acknowledged Q- .
