Sub: Tele-Booking Scheme

To save the passengers from all the hassles of booking of

train ticket, Tele-Booking Scheme to provide rail reservation to the

intending passengers on a credit card by using telephone was
introduced as a pilot project on Northern Railway.

Minister for Railways while presenting the Railway Budget
for the year 2000-2001 had announced in the Parliament that.
Tele-Booking Scheme will be extended to Mumbai, Calcutta,

Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad.and Ahmedabad.

Ministry of Railways, therefore, desire that Tele-Booking
Scheme be introduced without spending any amount at the above
mentioned locations on the pattern of Northern Railway. It may
please be noted that any investment on machine/ plant/phone line
etc. shall be made by the party. In this connection, a copy each of
broad guidelines of Tele-Booking Scheme on rail credit card and
agreement entered between Standard Chartered Bank and
Northern Railway is enclosed. For implementation of Tele-Booking
Scheme, open tenders may be invited by two packet tendering

system. The first packet should evaluate technical competence —

where only reputed Banks with wide ‘circulation of credit cards

- should be short-listed. . The second packet shall consist of financial

bids. The bank who offers the maximum money out of the fee
taken for issuing the card to the individuals, shall be allotted the
tender. CCM(PM) / Northern Railway may be consulted in case of |

, 1. GENERAL GUIDELINES |

- The basic system will be that reservation will be provided on a Rail Credit
Card by using telephone. Broad system of working shall be as under:-
1.1) In this scheme, a nominated bank will issue Rail Credit card. This

Rail Credit Card will have all the features of credit card including laser

based photograph, and in addition, secret PIN (Personal Identification ©
Number) will be issued to the passengers by the agency providing Rail
Credit Card. |

1.2) The passenger will gain access to the Railway booking operator after

dialing designated telephone number for purchase. of rail ticket and

successfully going through the Security verifications of the bank including '

Credit Card number and the Rail-PIN.

the cardholder and advise the | cardholder about the availability of the
accommodation for the desired date of journey and class and train sought
by him/her and seek his approval for bookin
