particularly on the catering stalls, is one of the focus areas of -

platform modernisation. Thrust in. this area is necessary with a.
view to achieve the objective of making station platforms more —

hyglenic, besides improving the quality of service and the image

of the Railways. This should replace the existing system of

bottles in case of cold drinks and preparation of tea/coffee in
Case of hot beverages, ः' a

inherent convenience in using these machines., They provide |

The. conventional method of making tea and coffee is not
conducive to the Maintenance of uniform standards of quality:

product served is maintained uniformly. Chances of adulteration

and use of Inferior quality of raw materiat are greatly minimised

as. reputed companies generally supply AVMs.

. Dispensing through the AVMs, being highly mechanised, is

helpful.in catering to a large number of .custorners efficiently.
Since the process of dispensing the products In disposable
containers 15 fully automatic and hands do not touch the raw
materials, AVM operations are more hygienic than the
conventional methods of preparation and service. -

AVMs are compact in size. Huge amount of space, required for

storage of raw materials, fuel, bottle crates, refrigeration &

cooling arrangements, crockery and utensils. etc. is, therefore,

- gaved through’ the installation of AVMs. Since no cooking Is

involved in making tea/coffee and only the machine uses the
desired quantities of premixed raw materials, duly filled in the

- machine, a high level of cleanliness 15 possible ‘through AVM

* AVM operation is safer than the conventional methods of food

preparation, as it does not involve the use of any kind of fuel

such as kerosene, coal and |.PG. etc. | re So

All AVMs have automatic computerised counters to give perfect

sale figures and there is no leakage of revenue. >

The extant policy directives are limited only to hot/cold
beverages, particularly tea/coffee and cold drinks. However,
AVMs have been successfully Installed for other items such as
' soups, chocolates, biscuits and cakes etc. The scope. for
Installation of AVMs should, therefore, include not only all types

of hot/cold beverages but also other items, which aré amenable
to dispensing through automatic machines. The term Automatic |
vending machine is being used in a generic form and it implies .

all types of pre-mix and post-mix machines for dispensing

beverages as also other machines, which dispense readymade

items, 7

Railway should prepare ‘a master plan for all major stations for
providing AVMs as. well as. other facilities to provide services

_ without causing congestion.. Divisions should. send’ their:
requirement to Head. Quarter with details of machines required:

to be installed station wise. AVMs should be installed on:

1) AIA’ and '8' class stations, Including on platforms,

concourse, and reservation and booking offices, etc.

li) Mobile catering. units like pantry cars: and mini.
