TM shall not give starting signal for starting unless received permission of SM to start got deleted.
SM & TM may be assigned any role or duty to ensure the safety in the manner as specified by special instructions.

Shall not start his train without ATP.
Satisfy himself correct signals taken off for his train.
Guard has given the signals to start his train.
Ensure line before him is clear of visible obstructions.

# Duties of LP

Guard shall not give signal to start unless he got the permission from SM to start his train.
Ensure no person is travelling in any vehicle or compartment or roof of the vehicle not intended for the use of passengers.
LP,ALP & Guard shall take the help of GRP, RPF & station staff to remove the unauthorized persons.

# Duties of Guard

SM shall see, before he give the guard permission to start a train, that all is right for the train to proceed.
SM shall give permission to start a train only when
LC obtained from the station in advance
LSS taken off.
Correct starter signal has been taken ‘OFF’.
Note:- The sequence of taking off departure signals for a departing train as per S.R. 3.10

# Duties of SM before giving the permission to guard

When a train carrying passengers is due to leave and all work in connection with it is completed, SM shall
At important junction stations provided with PA system as mentioned in SWR
At all other stations by ringing station bell 2 beats for starting a Down Train, 3 beats for an Up train & 4 beats for a branch line train.

# Permission to Guard

Taking off starter signal shall be considered as the permission by SM to start train.
LP shall inform Guard through walkie talkie .
Guard shall give starting signal.
The starting signal shall also be given while restarting after stopping outside station limits.
Starting signal shall normally given on the platform side, at stations where it cannot be seen by LP due to curve , it shall be given on the side where it can be seen well.

# Use of Walkie-Talkie for starting signal
Walkie-Talkie should not be used as an alternative to physical exchange of signals.
In case of full trains, it may be used for exchange of signals between LP and Guard  when it is not possible to exchange when the conditions for exchange of the starting signal fulfilled.
In such case, LP, Guard and SM while using , shall clearly mention their identity along with the station name and train number while communicating and confirm the identity of speaker at the other end.
