MESSAGE
Safe running of Trains is the top most priority and responsibility for each
and every Railway employee. Any compromise on this aspect is not tolerable.
Safety
can
be
ensured
by
scrupulously
following
the
prescribed
procedures/protocols and adhering to the maintenance schedules using quality
materials and workmanship. Safety awareness, alertness and education amongst
the safety related staff needs to be disseminated through various means such as
seminars, workshops, samvads social media, etc. to inculcate the “Safety First,
Always First” culture. Towards this end, Southern Railway had issued a booklet in
vernacular & English named “Lessons Learnt from Past Accidents” comprising
case studies of typical accidents occurred in the past over the Indian Railways and
their root causes. That booklet has been found to be highly useful for the ground
staff involved in train operation and asset maintenance by learning lessons from
the past mistakes committed by others leading to accidents so as to avoid them in
their respective sphere of working.
The updated edition of same booklet is in your hands, will be highly useful
for the ground staff in ensuring safety in Railway working.
