# SECURING OF
VEHICLES

S M responsible for seeing vehicles /wagons standing at station secured, so that they cannot be moved, so as to obstruct running line.
Vehicles / wagons standing on a running line coupled together and HBs applied.
They placed inside fouling mark.

If siding or running line is not trapped (or)
 If trapping suspended or
Situated on gradient steeper than 1 in 600 (or)
If vehicles not fitted with HBs (or)
During high winds,
			Secured with safety chain fastened to rail and padlocked.

HB of SLRs of passenger rakes shall be screwed down .
At night, side lamps & tail lamp of vehicles at both ends switched on.
When side and tail lamps not provided, HS lamp showing red light exhibited in both up and down directions.
A clear remark in red ink made in TSR indicating time, road number on which stabled.
A record of blocking of running line made in station diary.

Stabling on a running line with gradient of
1 in 400 or steeper,
Following precautions also to be observed:-
1.	The handbrakes shall be applied.
2.	Sprags or wedges or skids shall be used.
3.	Such lines wherever possible isolated from other running lines.

4.	SM to ensure that all points are set , clamped and padlocked against these lines and key in personal custody.
5.	Pinning down of at least 6 vehicles Hand Brakes at each end
6.	Fastening of Safety chains at either end.

Engine Detaching:-
Engine of train carrying passengers not to be detached outside station limits except in emergency as below:-
		1.	For testing of a bridge.
		2.	For isolating a burning coach or coaches on 				a train carrying passengers.
		3.	To convey a serious accident message.

Precautions before detaching TE
HBs in guard brake van at rear and in BV wherever provided shall be securely screwed on.
H Bs of any goods wagons on train securely pinned down.
HB of any coaching vehicle applied.

Sprags / wedges / skids in guard’s BV shall securely jammed under farther most vehicle of the rack in direction of falling gradient.
 The interval between detaching and attaching shall not exceed 45 minutes .
On ghat or gradient sections, loco not to be detached from train outside station limits other than emergencies.

Inside station limits
Gradient not steeper than 1 in 600
	Guard shall apply Hand Brake of his BV before detaching engine.
	If BV required to be detached with engine, HB of at least 6 vehicles shall be applied.

Gradient steeper than 1 in 600
but not steeper than 1 in 400
	Guard shall apply HB of BV and at least 6 vehicles on the train, before detaching the engine.
	 If BV of train also to be detached for any reason, HB of 12 vehicles shall be applied.

Gradient steeper than 1 in 400
	HBs of 12 vehicles along with HB of BV to be applied.
	If BV to be detached then 18 vehicles HBs to be applied

Outside station limits
If required to detach TE of a goods train on a gradient not steeper than 1 in 600 ,
Guard apply HB of BV and also HBs of at least 18 vehicles.
If gradient steeper than 1 in 600 , the Guard apply HB of BV and also HBs of all vehicles.
The Guard shall , after satisfying himself that rain braked as required,
