Ref: Rates Master Circular/Weighment/2019/0 and its amendments 
Please refer to WR's letter No.C.611/3Vol.XIII E-53878 dt.11.02.2024 wherein inter alia referring 
to Board's letter No.2012/M(N)/951/35(E-3325701) dt.30.01.2024, clarification has been sought about 
weighment of liquid consignment like Molasses, edible oils, Caustic Soda and Coal Tar when loaded in 
tank container wagons. 
Guidelines for weighment of Molasses, edible oils, Caustic Soda and Coal Tar through dip 
measurement method are prescribed vide Para 1.6.1 of Rates Master Circular/Weighment/2019/0. 
The matter has been examined in consultation with Mechanical Directorate of Railway Board who 
have advised that weighment of liquid consignment like Molasses, edible oils, Caustic Soda and Coal 
Tar when loaded in tank container wagons can be done through Dip Measurement Method or through 
commodity specific Flow Meter, calibrated and certified by Weights & Measure Department of the 
concerned State Government.
