Ministry of Railways had issued policy guidelines on criteria for stoppages
of trains in 1987, 1991 & 1992. Due to many fold increase in the cost and other
inputs the policy has been reviewed. Ministry of Railways has decided that while
deciding upon the provision of a stoppage/withdrawal of stoppage a train from a
station, the following factors be taken mto account:

1. At present the cost of a stoppage ranges between Rs 4376/- to Rs. 5396/-
depending upon traction, composition and other factors. While the present basic
fare of a ticket distance-wise up to a distance of 1000 kms is as under:

Denes De "ae ee

ms 1A | 2A | rate SL ag tt
400 | 542 | 322 | 3 काका

200 | 794 | 430 Tt 499 | 34
300 | 1081

301

2. The minimum number of tickets to be sold at the station, so as to tecover the cost
should be 40 or more for Sleeper Class for a distance of 500 kms or its equivalent
in terms of cost for mixed class of passengers like Air Condition, General and -
distances (multiple of 100 Kms) towards/from destinatioii/originating stations of
the train. ee -

3. No stoppages to be provided when the trains are passing at odd hours.
4. No additional stoppages to be provided to long distance trains in the suburban
section.
5. No additional stoppage to be provided in sections having a capacity utilisation
above 90%.
6. For the stoppage of passenger trains, the existing instructions/conventions hold

good.

In addition, it is advised that the following additional criteria may be borne in
mind before consideration of any stoppage:-

~(D) Total sale of tickets “at the station-for-both-Up-&-Dn-direction for all the trains

already stopping at the station, distance-wise, class-wise & cost-wise (2) trains
already stopping/availability of alternative services & convenience & Occupancy of
the existing services (3) affect on line capacity of the section and — of
trains (4) population & significance of towns/cities & new developments ig
place (5) Nature of the train & Occupancy of the train for which stoppage 1s
demanded (6) operational constraints etc. (7) pattern of traffic at the station (8)
passing time of the tram at the station.
