Kavach is an indigenous
Automatic Train Protection
(ATP)
system
developed
for Indian Railways.
It Enhances railway safety
by
preventing
collisions,
over speeding, and Signal
Passing at Danger (SPAD).
It uses RFID, GPS, and UHF
radio communication.

Station Master Operation Cum Indication
Panel (SM-OCIP) is used for:
a) Train monitoring.
b) SOS emergency
handling.
c) Kavach failure
reporting.
d) Mode transitions
and
acknowledgments.
MDZTI, BHULI , ER

a) SM-OCIP is installed in the Station Master’s panel room,
b) On duty SM is responsible for operation of SMOCIP and
custody of keys to prevent unauthorized operation.
MDZTI, BHULI , ER

Station Master’s Key: All operations on SMOCIP can be
performed only through the authorization of an SM Key. This
is connected to front panel wiring in such a way that the Push
buttons
used
to
perform
SOS
related
operations
gets
activated only when the SM’s Key is turned to IN position.
MDZTI, BHULI , ER

LCD display (4 Line x 20 char): Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
screen displays the station’s information (name/ID etc), locos
registered with Station, error messages, SOS/collision messages
are displayed in characters
MDZTI, BHULI , ER

SOS indication: SOS indication sent in an emergency situation like collision
(rear or head on). Once SOS message is generated all the loco TCAS units
of all locos within 3000 metres of location of SOS originating source and
approaching towards location of SOS originating source, shall apply
brakes to bring the train/locomotive to standstill. After the train speed is
reduced to zero kmph, train speed shall be supervised for 30 kmph
(configurable) till the train passes the originating Location of “SOS”
message.
MDZTI, BHULI , ER

Health indication: SMOCIP communicates with the station
TCAS electronic unit installed in relay room to receive
information of system health status. Also, status of Battery
voltage can be visualized through LED indications.

Audio Buzzer: SOS messages and system faults are received in
both visual and audio forms on SMOCIP. Buzzer facilitates
the audio alerts to station master.
