HAND SIGNALS

General
Hand signals shall be shown by day by using flag or hand and by night by using light.
Hands shall be used by day in emergencies only, when flags are not available.

STOP HAND SIGNAL
By day, it is shown by showing a red flag or by raising both arms above head.
By night, it is shown by showing a red light or by violently waving a white light horizontally across the body when red light can not be shown.

ALL READY SIGNAL
It is given by smartly waving a green flag by day and a green light by night three times over head from side to side, after a pause, two times vertically up and down.

Occasions:
Between Station Master and Points man, after setting and locking the points, as instructed by Station Master.
Between Station Master and Gateman, after closing and securing the gate against road traffic, as instructed by Station Master.
Between Guard and Loco Pilot before restarting a train from midsection.

ALL RIGHT SIGNAL
It is given by holding out a green flag horizontally by day and by waving a green light horizontally by night.

Occasions:
When a train passes through a station, it is exchanged between the station staff and train crew on both sides of the train.
After the complete train has passed the platform and before the train engine passes the station limit, exchanged between Guard and Loco Pilot.
When trains are running in opposite direction as in double line Guards of the two trains shall exchange.

In the following occasions, Guard shall give All Right signal and Loco Pilot shall acknowledge by one long whistle:
After restarting a train from midsection.
Immediately after passing safe over summit of a ghat.
After the last vehicle has passed a caution spot.

If All Right signal not exchanged by LP / ALP / Gd to Stn Staff while running through, it is treated as run away train and stopped at next station.
In S/L token area, when token received and signal not exchanged, the train need not be stopped at station but memo served to LP. through pouch.

STARTING SIGNAL
It is given by Guard to Loco Pilot.
It is given by blowing the whistle and
   waving a green flag by day and a green
   light by night overhead from side to side.
Guard shall give starting signal, only after
   getting permission of Station Master to
   start the train.

Normally, Starting signal is given on
   platform side.
Due to curve, fixed structure, etc., if it
   cannot be seen by Loco Pilot on platform
   side, it shall be given on the other side.
Where necessary, Guard can use walkie-Talkie for this purpose.

COMPLETE ARRIVAL SIGNAL
It is given by Guard and acknowledged by
   Station Master.
It is given by waving the arm by day and a
   white light by night – 4 times above head
   form side to side.
It indicates that the train has arrived
   completed and berthed clear of
