Sub: Grant of concession to Senior Citizen ~ Proof of age!"
As per thé: existing-instructions issued’ from time fo time from the Ministry of
Railways, Genior Citizens fe-aomen of 60 years and above and men of 65 years
८; कि and. above: are.granted 30% concession in Mail/Exprass fares of all classes including
fares of Rajdhani/Shatabdi group:of trains. This corcession is granted at the time of
purchasing of.tickets at the stations and not in the train. .The concession is also not
valid in “Ordinary” fares applicable to.“Passenger" trains

Further S. No. 42 of Annexure to rule 101 of IRCA Coaching Tariff No. 24, Part
| (Vol. I) provides as under:-
“No proof of age is required at the time” 6f'burchasing ticket. However, during
journey, the Senior citizens should carry,some documentary proof.showing their
age or date of birth, issued by any Government Institution/Agency/Local Body, {lke
identity Card, Ration Card, Driving Licence, Passport, Educational certificate
certificate from Local Bodies like Panchayat/Corporation/ Municipality, or any
other.authentic'and recognised document. This documentary proof of age should
_ be produced if demanded by some Railway Official during the journey

Note: ही, for any reason, the concerned Senior Citizen is not willing to avail_of the
concession admissible to him, the request must be made to the ‘booking clerk in
writing either on the Reservation requisition form or separately through an
application in this.regard giving the Name,Age, Sex and residential address of the
concerned Senior Citizen . ८.
A number of “complaints बह. being received. regarding .inconvenience/
harassment caused to the Senior, Citizens for not being able to produce the proof of
age during the journey. Presumably, such: incidents: are occurring ‘on “account of
Senior Citizens not being aware of the extant rules in. this matter. The Railways need
to give very wide publicity to these rules through, media, Time tables, etc.’and display
at vantage locations at: Stations. The following steps also’ shouldbe taken:

(iii) The Senior Citizen. concession shall be granted only on demand if
the passenger gives the option for availing the same in the requisition form
provided that they are otherwise eligible. Reservation Clerk shall accept
_.the requisition form. only if the option has been. specified in “Yes” of “No
Necessary change in the software needs to be effected
(iv) Suitable notices should be displayed at the booking
window/reservation.counters to give the following information:- .
7 “The Senior Citizens wishing to avail of concession should give it in
writing on the Reservation requisition form. +*No proof of age 15 required at
the time of purchasing ticket. However during journey, the Senior Citizens
should carry some document showing proof of their age or date of birth,
issued by any Government. institution/Agency/Local Body, like identity
“Card, Ration Card, Driving Licencé, Passport, Educational certificate .
