Policy, guidelines
for train
side vending were
issued vige letter
No.2000/TG.III/645/11
dated
29.05.2000. Train Side Vending is also a part of Catering Policy, 2005 (Para: 6.2 IV) dated 16.03.2005.

Since av~Hability of pantry cars is limited, Zonal Railways and IRCTC should go for train side vending
very aggressively"anpyery quickly, as it will tremendou'sly improve catering on trains.

Departm~ntal staff wherever available at Refreshment Rooms, restaurants and base kitchens, should
preferably be used for train side vending.
They may also be asked to serve a-la-carte items besides standard
meals.

The present Policy restricts train side vendingtQbe doneby refreshmehtt.60rt{liceri~eesand selection
was done by calling applications. It has now been decidedthat the licentes fdr train sidevendingshould be
granted by caning open'tenders. The eligibility conditions ~d tendering sysiemas 'in vogue for mobile catering
units will also apply in this case. The licensee can be permittedto servc{a-Ia~carteitems besidesstandard
meals. Th~yshouldalso servevery goodqualityproducts,whichshouldbe monitoredclosely.

To keep the number of vending passes to the bare minimum,dependinguponthe sales turnoverand
compositionof train, a maximum of 6 to 8 vendors per train may be allowed. These vendors should be in
uniform.

The whole route in Up and Dn direction should be segmented conveniently into different legs so as to
best serve the trains keeping in mind duration of the stoppage as we]] as meal time.

All Zonal Railways"S.ri~.JRCTC should make vigorous efforts to expand catering services by train side
vending to cover a11Mail/Express
trains first and other trains thereafter.
8.
Al1other instructions issued vide letter No.2000rrG .1II/645/11dated 29.05.2000 wil] continue to apply.
