Sub:.-Reservations-Group /Families travelling together being
treated as one unit, . a
Pleagé refer to this office letter of even numbet dated 17.2.99 on

the subject quoted above wherein it has been advised that zonal railways
may clelegate the powers to various levels prescribing the extent to,which

cach level can permit party booking.

2 Instances have come to the notice of Ministry of Railways where
party reservation for the return journey sought at a station in a train
defined on the other PRS are not being allowed at that station ef. a
person intending to secure party booking at New Delhi in train ex
Chennai which is. defined on Southern Railway PRS is not allowed to get
the reservation at New Delhi. :

3. The matter has been considered in the Ministry of Railways. Since _
with the expansion of networking—of the computerised reservation - दि
system it is now possible to issue outward as well as return journey
lickets at the same reservation ollice, the party booking for the return
Journey should also be permitted at the same place, where reservation is

peng sought for irrespective of the PRS on which the train has been
defined, | .

4, While permitting party booking zonal railways must take into
' account the factors of oo

{i} Demand of berths in peak period by general public.
(ii) Bonafide of the party, cultural troops, etc.

(11) lhe railways should evolve a mechanism to a

ler void cornering
of berths by unscrupulous elements.

छ, _ There should be no restriction in the system for group booking
on the opening day of reservation. However, zonal railways, whenever
necessary, can impose local restrictions in this regard.

6. With a view to avoid chances of malpractices, a register should be
maintained as record in which particulars of the parligs to whom such
permission is granted should be recorded for any enquiries becoming
necessary ala later stage

7. Immediate action may be taken lo enforce the above arrangements
and the receipt of this letter be acknowledged
