' Sub: - Sub: - Procurement and Supply of “Packaged Drinking Water” on Indian Railways, and Suppl of “Packaged Drinkin We ter” on Indian Railways. | Zonal Railways were advised to procure and supply: “Mineral water” on railways as per the specifications of IS 13428:1992 vide. Railway. .Board letter No. 98/TG.111/603/11 dated 18.02.1999. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has Specified separate specifications for “Packaged Drinking Water” i.e. IS 14543; 1998 and “Natural Mineral Water” ice. IS 13428: 1998 and the specifications contained in IS 13428:1992 are no longer in existence. The manufacturers of “Packaged Drinking Water” will now require certification of BIS as per the revised instructions contained in the Gazette Notification No. 510 dated 29.9,2000 Amendment) Rules, 2000 and shall come into force on 29,3.2001, The matter has been examined in consultation with Health and Finance Directorates of Railway Board and it has been decided that railways will procure and supply “Packaged Drinking Water” at stations and in trains. These guidelines will supercede the earlier instructions circulated on this subject. With immediate effect following guidelines should be observed for procurement and supply of “Packaged Drinking Water” on Indian Railways. — 1. — Terminology - The “Packaged Drinking Water” means water derived from any source of potable water which is subjected to treatments, namely, decantation, filtration, _ combination of filtration, aeration, filtration with membrane filter, depth filter, ~ “cartridge filter, activated carbon filtration, demineralization, remineralisation, Ta reverse osmosis and packed.
