<!-- Slide number: 1 --> # FORWARDING NOTE <!-- Slide number: 2 --> # Any person desirous of booking goods by Rail should submit a forwarding note. This is necessary as per section 64 of the Railways Act, 1989. This is in the form of an application. This is an initial document between the consignor and the Railways. <!-- Slide number: 3 --> # This form is an agreement hence it is a legal document and can be produced in the court of law in case of disputes. It is exempted from stamp duty as per section 9 (a) of the Stamp Act, 1899. <!-- Slide number: 4 --> # Forwarding note consists of the following information: Names and addresses of the consignor and consignee. From and To stations. Number of packages and private marks if any. Description of the contents and weight. <!-- Slide number: 5 --> # Whether packing conditions are complied with or not. Actual condition of the contents of the consignment. Election of Owners Risk rate and Railway Risk rate. Route, via which the consignment is to be moved. <!-- Slide number: 6 --> # Declaration of the value of the consignment and whether willing to pay percentage charges on excess value or not. If open wagon is selected by the sender. Date and signature of consignor or his authorized agent with address. <!-- Slide number: 7 --> # Precautions to be taken while filling up the forwarding note: While filling the Forwarding Note, consignor has to fill all the columns correctly. Consignor is responsible for all the entries made in it. SM can guide in filling up of the forwarding note, but he should not fill it himself. <!-- Slide number: 8 --> # No alterations are permitted. If any, alteration, consignor should sign in full. If consignor or his agent is illiterate, his left hand thumb impression is taken. As per section 66 of the Railways Act, 1989, correct description of the material should be given for calculation of freight. <!-- Slide number: 9 --> # Forwarding note should be preserved for 5 years, or if any claim case is pending till settlement of the case. It should be pasted to the record copy of the Railway Receipt. <!-- Slide number: 10 --> # If taken for any reference, copy should be preserved quoting the reference number under which it is taken with signature of the official taking it. They need not fill separate forwarding note for each consignment at the time of booking. They have to apply to Sr.DCM through the stationmaster for this facility. <!-- Slide number: 12 --> # If agreed to, a general forwarding note is prepared in three copies One copy is given to the party, One copy is sent to the station and Third copy is retained as office copy. This is valid for 6 months. Consignments are booked at owner’s risk rate only. <!-- Slide number: 13 --> # Fresh forwarding note should be executed, for booking at Railway’s risk rate or when packages are defectively packed. The list of consignments with weight, and destination station should be submitted in duplicate at the time of booking each consignment.
