With the creation of the new assets, the building stock is being added regularly. The gigantic task of maintaining these assets is being discharged by Engineering Department of Indian Railways to the satisfaction of end users through its wide and established system. The task of maintaining these assets is becoming more challenging due to regular creation of additional assets, growing age of buildings and shortage of staff. The system of outsourcing of maintenance in select areas has already been started. The outsourcing of maintenance is being done by awarding the work of Civil and Horticulture maintenance. For improving lodging & monitoring Complaints, web/mobile based complaint management system is being implemented by some of the zonal railways/ production units. This has made maintenance services more efficient and saved the users from the hassles of registering complaints in person at Maintenance offices. This maintenance manual has been framed to incorporate changes in the trends of maintenance system and requirement of the users so as to fulfill the maintenance requirements to ensure smooth and satisfactory functioning of the maintenance.
