Speaker Sir, I beg to move:- “Having regard to the facts that- (1) Indian Railways are one of the largest transportation and logistics networks in the world and are drivers of the socio-economic development of the country; Indian Railways account for one per cent of India's Gross National Product and serve as the backbone of core sector's freight needs; (11) India has a vast history of railway development with an extensive network of train lines and stations built in the last century; Railways transport over twenty-four million passengers each day, connecting 8000 stations across the country; (11) Railway stations in the country have evolved as key urban centres with commercial and infrastructural developments around over the years; (iv) owing to the rapid changes taking place in the Indian economy huge investments are necessary to transform and modernise railway infrastructure; about:blank 1/17 3/9/23, 2:52 PM about:blank (v) various schemes including Model, Modern and Adarsh Station Scheme have been formulated for beautification and modernization of stations on Indian Railways in the last two decades and the priority under said modernisation schemes have been on improving passenger amenities at select Al and A category stations only; (vi) there is an inordinate delay in the operationalization of the Visakhapatnam- based South Coast Railway Zone in the State of Andhra Pradesh with the Detailed Project Report of the zone is pending with the Railway Ministry; and (vii) there is no Railway Recruitment Board Beautification and Modernization of Railway Stations under the Adarsh Station Scheme, etc. 9 in the upcoming South Coast Railway Zone in the State of Andhra Pradesh due to which job seekers are forced to travel to the State of Telangana to appear for railway recruitment exams, this House urges upon the Government to- (a) take immediate action for the beautification and modernization of the remaining stations targeted to be developed under the Adarsh Station Scheme; (b) ensure modernization and upgradation of all the railway stations in the country; and (c) expedite the operationalisation of the South Coast Railway Zone and creation of a Railway Recruitment Board for the zone."
