Sub:- Strengthening of Safety Organisation of the Railways.

Ref'- Board’s letter of even number dated 19.02.2003,

Railway Safety Review Committee, while reviewing the efficacy of existing Safety Organisation on the Railways have recommenced that “ Safety department should be made broad-based and suitabie officers from Traiiic, Civil, Mechanical, Signalling and Electrical department should be posted as Safety officers at all levels”. The recommendation was accepted by the Board and was communicated to the Railway vide Board’s letter under referenc. It was also advised that Chief Safety Officer in Headquarter of each Zone may be drawn from any of five branches, mentioned in the recommendation.

a: The Board have now decided that the department wise distribution of posts of Chief Safety Officers on the Railways shall be as under :-

3. The SA Grade post required for CSOs will be given by the department to which

the officer posted as CSO belong to. Wherever officer from other than Traffic Department is posted as CSO, the SA Grade post of Traffic Department being operated as CSO will go back to the Traffic cadre. The posting of the officers as CSOs, as above, shall be decided by the Railway Board
