Introduction:
The Role of Security on Indian Railways is carried out by two organizations.
Railway Protection Force – RPF
( Central Government- for Protection of Railway Property and to ensure passengers safety & securities )
2. Government Railway Police – GRP
( State Government- to maintain law and order inside trains and railway premises )
These Organizations are given the Separate & Specific responsibilities to execute various functions on Railways.

# 1. RPF
Railway Protection Force (RPF) - is an Armed Force of the Union under the administrative and operational control of Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways, Government of India established by the Railway Protection Force Act, 1957 enacted by the Indian Parliament for “The better Protection and Security of Railway Property and Passenger Area“.

Sub-section 26 - Notification
(a) - “officer authorized” means an officer authorized by the Central Government under sub-section (2) of section 179;]
179 (2) – If any person commits any offence mentioned in section 137- 139, 141 to 147, 153 to 167, and 172 to 176, he may be arrested, without warrant or other written authority, the officers authorized by a notified order of the central Government.

The Government Railway Police maintains Law & Order Matters on Railways and is a Part of State Police.
The jurisdiction covers the Railway track areas and station buildings, investigation of Property Offences and Body Offences of Passengers in trains and Railway premises.
Also provide security in trains and Railway premises to passengers and passengers’ belongings.
