No refund of fare in respect of a lost or misplaced ticket shall be granted. Refund of fare shall be granted in respect of a torn or mutilated ticket if its genuineness and authenticity are verifiable from the particulars visible on the face of the ticket. If the reservation status of a lost, misplaced, torn or mutilated ticket is confirmed or RAC, and a duplicate ticket is sought before preparation of the reservation chart, the station master shall issue a duplicate ticket on payment of Rs. 50 per passenger in second and sleeper class and Rs. 100 per passenger in other classes. If a duplicate ticket for a lost or misplaced reserved ticket is sought after preparation of the reservation chart, it shall be issued on payment of a charge equal to fifty per cent of the total fare. No duplicate ticket shall be issued for an RAC ticket after preparation of the reservation chart. If a duplicate ticket for a torn or mutilated reserved or RAC ticket is sought after preparation of the reservation chart, it shall be issued on payment of a charge equal to twenty-five per cent of the total fare. A duplicate ticket for a party coach ticket or special train ticket shall be issued up to the time of departure on payment of a charge equal to ten per cent of the total fare. Charges paid for issue of a duplicate ticket are generally not refundable. If the original lost or misplaced ticket is found and presented with the duplicate before departure, the duplicate-ticket charge shall be refunded after deducting five per cent, subject to a minimum deduction of Rs. 20. If the journey is not undertaken, cancellation charges on the original ticket shall be determined under the applicable rules. A passenger who paid excess charges in the train because a reserved or RAC ticket was lost, misplaced, torn or mutilated may apply to the railway administration. After inquiry, the Chief Commercial Manager (Refunds) may grant refund of the charges realized in the train after retaining cancellation charges equal to fifty per cent of a single-journey ticket fare per passenger, provided no earlier refund was taken on the original ticket.
