RBE No. 166/2008 GOVERNMENT OF INDIA (~ f1xCJ)(x) MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (tR~) (RAIL WAY BOARD) (~ 6ITt) ~ New Delhi, the,3fJ September,2008. The General Managers(Personnel) All Indian Railways, PUs, etc. Sub.: Payment of Ex. Gratia lumpsum compensation to the families of Railway employees who die in harness in performance of bonafide official duties. In partial modification of O.M. No. 45/55/97-P&PW(C) dated 11th Sept., 1998 circulated under Board's letter dated 5.11.99 under reference on the above mentioned subject, sub-paras (a) to (c) under para-5 of the DOP&PW's O.M. dated 11-9-1998 since amended vide their O.M.No. 38/37/08-P&PW(A) dated 2.9.2008 may be substituted and read as under: (a) Death occurring due to accidents m the course of Rs.I0.00 lakh performance of duties (b) Death occurring in the course of performance of duties Rs.l 0.00 lakh attributable to acts of violence by terrorists, anti -social elements, etc. (c) Death occurring during (a) enemy action in international Rs.15.00 lakh war or border skirmishes and (b) action against militants, terrorists, extremists etc. (d) Death occurring while on duty ic the specified high altitude, Rs.15.00 lakh inaccessible border posts, etc. on account of natural disasters, extreme weather conditions. 2. These orders are applicable in the case of Railway servants who die III harness on or after 1-1-2006 . . 3.
