Sub: Transportation of cattle/animals (including pigs) by rail.

Ref: Board’s Rates Instructions No. 99 of 2000 dated 15.11.2000: & No. 92 of 2001 dated 16.10.2001.

In continuation to Board’s Rates Instructions referred above, please find enclosed a copy of notification S.0.2465(E) dated 22.09.2009 whereby Government of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests had amended the Transport of Animals Rules 1978, namely:- Transport of Animals (Amendment) Rules 2009. These rules specify the space/area required for cattle/animal transportation by rail as:

Cattle: Space allowance per cattle while being transported by rail

Approximate weight of cattle in Kilogram Cattle weighing upto 200Kg.

Cattle weighing 200-300 Kg.

Cattle weighing 300-400 Kg.

Cattle Weighing above 400 Kg.

Pigs: Space requirement while being transported by rail.

Type of Pig | Weight range of pig Weaner: Piglet which has just been separated from the 12kg - 15kg mother for the purpose of independent rearing.

Young: Male or female pig between 0.3 to 0.6 months of 15kg -50kg age.

Adult: A male or female pig above 06 months of age. More than 50kg.

For movement of Pigs in VPU having floor area 63.55 sq. mt. on Broad gauge, the number of Pigs shall be 104 ( Granting space 0.61 sq.mt. per Pig).

For calculating number of cattle/animal to be loaded in a wagon, the area of wagon may be divided by area required by the cattle/animal for transportation specified in the above Rules.

Please ensure compliance of various conditions mentioned above and in Transport of Animal Amendment Rules, 2009.
