Sub: Running of freight trains on CC+8 routes.

Ref: Rates Circular 69 of 2007 and addendum thereto.

1.0 In terms of Rates Circulars referred above, running of BOXN/BOXNHS/ BOXNEL/BOXNHA/BCN/BCNA/BCNAHS wagons with increased permissible carrying capacity was permitted on identified CC+8 routes, as a pilot project subject to certain terms and conditions stipulated therein. The pilot project is valid upto 30.06.2008.

2.0 The matter has been reviewed. It has been decided to extend the validity of the pilot project upto 30.06.2009.

3.0 The identified CC+8 routes are listed in the Annexure to this letter. The chargeable weight for ores, gypsum, limestone & dolomite, stones, clinker, cement, slag and E&F grade coal on CC+8 routes, when loaded in different wagons, will be as under:

3.1 The loading of gypsum during the period from 1st June to 31st August in the above mentioned wagons on CC+8 routes will remain same as applicable on universalized CC+6 routes i.e. 65 tonne in BOXN /BOXNCR /BOXNHS /BOXNEL, 64 tonne in BOXNHA, 61 tonne in BCN and 64 in BCNA/BCNAHS wagons.

3.2 The loading of E & F grade coal during the period from 1st July to 15th August in the above mentioned wagons on CC+8 routes will remain same as applicable on universalized CC+6 routes i.e. 65 tonne in BOXN /BOXNCR /BOXNHS /BOXNEL, 64 tonne in BOXNHA, 61 tonne in BCN and 64 in BCNA/BCNAHS wagons.

4.0 The aforementioned pilot projects are applicable for traffic from any station to any station falling on these identified routes only which should also be the route over which traffic between the two stations normally moves. All sidings, which are falling in the identified routes and dealing with the commodities mentioned in para 3.0 above are also included in this pilot project. Branches, if any, taking off from specified routes are not included in the pilot project.

5.0 In cases when traffic is booked via routes which involves two or more of different routes viz. excepted CC+6 routes, universalized CC+6 routes and CC+8 routes, the chargeable weight will be the permissible carrying capacity of the route for which permissible carrying capacity is most restrictive.

6.0 This circular is a consolidation of earlier circulars issued on the subject. If there appears to be any discrepancy in the existing routes, Railway shall immediately refer the matter to Railway Board for correction.

7.0 This issues with the approval of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Traffic Transportation and Finance Directorates of Ministry of Railways.

8.0 Issue necessary instructions to all concerned.

(i) obtaining CRS sanction for these routes, if not already obtained as yet, within next three months and ensuring compliance of instructions issued by Board vide letters No.2005/CE-II/TS/7 Vol.I dt. 28.09.2006 and No.2005/M(N)/204/2 dated 03.06.2005.

(ii) imposing suitable speed restriction on distressed bridges and track for SUMO rakes.
