Sub:Conveyance of chemical/ dangerous /hazardous consignments in containers by
rail
Ref: (i) Red Tariff No.20 and amendments thereto

Guidelines regarding conveyance of dangerous goods are laid down vide Railway Red
Tariff No.20

Presently, the consignor submits undertaking in the Forwarding Note with regard to
transportation of hazardous consignments in containers by rail and also affixes hazardous cargo
stickers on the container carrying such cargo as per the IMDG norms.

The matter has been examined and further it is advised that:

"The consignor must submit a physical copy of Material Safety Data Sheet(MSDS)
alongwith the Forwarding Note at the time of booking at the originating station to the CGS of
the originating/loading station for the safe. tranportation of chemical/hazardous/dangerous
consignments in containers by rail."

Zonal Railways should apprise of the aforesaid guidelines to all the freight customers -
including container train operators. All concerned should be advised to follow the guidelines
scrupulously.
