Sub: Discontinuation of ‘Weight Only’ facility for payment of freight Ref: Board’s letter No.TC-I/2005/104/1 Pt.1 dated 01 -02.2010(copy enclosed)

Reference is invited to Board’s letter under reference vide which guidelines were issued for discontinuance of ‘Weight Only’ system of freight payment and to advise freight customers to switch over e-Payment system for payment of freight charges.

The above-mentioned guidelines are reiterated. Any aberration/deviation may be reported to Board.

Sub:- Discontinuation of ‘Weight Only’ facility for Payment of freight.

E-payment system for payment of freight has been implemented on All Indian Railways and has been running successfully. Instructions have also been issued to all Zonal Railways from time to time to expedite proliferation of E-Payment system. The customers who are availing other facility of payment of freight may be brought under E-payment system.

In this connection, it has been decided to discontinue ‘Weight Only’ facility of freight payment beyond 31.07.2010 at those locations where TMS has been provided. Those agreements of ‘Wt. Only’ system which lapse before

31.07.2010 may not be renewed. For those locations where agreements lapse after 31.07.2010, notice may be issued to customers that ‘Weight Only’ facility will be discontinued beyond 31.07.2010 and to switch to E-payment system before 31.07.2010. ,

However, there may be some locations where TMS has not been provided.

At such locations agreements which lapse before 31.07.2010 may be renewed subject to condition to switch to E-payment system within 3 months of Commissioning of TMS. For those non-TMS locations where agreements lapse after 31.07.2010, notice may be issued to all customers that ‘Weight Only’ facility will be discontinued after three months from the date of commissioning of TMS and to swith to E-payment system.

This issues with the approval of Finanace Directorate of the Ministry of

Railways.
