Sub: Hire Charge for utilization of Railway Brake Van by Container Train Operators Ref: Board’s letter No.2007/TC-I/302/1Pt.G dt.11.01.2012 (Rates Circular No.02 of 2012)

Inter alia referring to Rates Circular No.02 of 2012, a clarification has been sought whether only ‘Hire Charge’ is leviable for utilization of railway brake van by container train operators or ‘Haulage Charge’ is also be leviable in addition to Hire Charge.

The matter has been examined and it has been decided that the guidelines prescribed vide Rates Circular No.02 of 2012 regarding levy of Hire Charge for utilization of Railway’s brake van by container train operators may be made effective from 1“ April 2012 instead of 1° February 2012. Further, it is clarified that from 1° April 2012, no Haulage Charge will be separately levied either for railway brake van or privately owned brake van.

Para 3.0 and Illustration given below Para 2.4 of Rates Circular No.02 of 2012 may be modified accordingly.

This issues in consultation with Traffic Transportation Dte. and with the concurrence of
