Sub: Implementation of Government’s decision on the recommendations of
the Seventh Central Pay Commission - Revision of provisions regulating
Ex-gratia lump-sum compensation to the families of Railway employees

In pursuance of the recommendations of the 7" Central Pay Commission, it has been
decided with the approval of the President that the amount of ex gratia lump sum
compensation, as modified vide para 12.1 of DOP&PW’s O.M No. No.38/37/2016-P&PW(A)
(i) dated 4.8.2016 be adopted by the Ministry of Railways in the case of families of Railway
servants who die in the performance of their bona fide official duties under various
circumstances. Accordingly, sub para (a) to (d) of the first paragraph of this Ministry’s letter

No. E(W)2008/CP-1/7 dated 30.9.2008 is modified and substituted as under:

25 lakh
Death in the course of performance of duties attributed to acts of 25 lakh
violence by terrorists, anti-social elements, etc. 7
Death occurring in border skirmishes and action against militants, 35 lakhs

terrorists, extremists, sea pirates
35 lakhs

Circumstances

Death occurring due to accidents in the course of performance of
duties. oO

Death occurring while on duty in the specified high altitude, |
unaccessible border posts, etc. on account of natural disasters,
extreme weather conditions

Death occurring during enemy action in war or such war like 45 lakhs
engagements, which are specifically notified by Ministry of |”
Defence. and death occurring during evacuation of Indian

Nationals from a war-torn zone in foreign country.

2. These orders are applicable in the case of Railway servants who die in harness on or
after 1.1.2016. -

3. This issues with the concurrence of Finance Directorate of Ministry of Railways.
