Sub: Issue of uniform and other accessories to Gangmen(Trackmen), Keymen, Mates and Patrolmen.

Ref: Board's letter of even no. dt. 27.12.05.

In terms of instructions referred to above, description/ specification in respect of shoes to be procured for Gangmen and others has’ been laid down. As per these instructions canvas shoes with grooved rubber soles conforming to BIS15298 suitable for walking along tracks are to be provided. It has come to notice that some of the manufacturers of the shoes are providing shoes having PU soles instead of rubber soles. The Railways have sought clarification as to whether such shoes should be procured.

2. The issue has been examined by Board and it has been observed that since the word ‘rubber sole’ is not mentioned in BIS specification 15298, PU/rubber sole shoes conforming to BIS specification 15298 subject to fulfillment of other conditions as laid down in Board's instruction of even no. dt. 27.12.05 may be procured.

3. This issues with the concurrence of Finance Directorate of

Ministry of Railways.
