RBE No. ?3/2010 PC No.185 GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (RAILWAY BOARD) No E(NG)l-20091TR/29 The General Managers (P) All Indian Railways and Production Units (As per standard list) New Delhi, dated 02-A2-2014 Sub: Posting of husband and wife at the same statlon In view of the utmost importance attached to the enhancement of women s status tn all walks of life and to enable them to lead a normal family life as also to ensure the education and welfare of the children, the instructions regarding pclsting of husband and wife at the same station were issued vide Ministry of Rallway;s letter N'r E(NG)ll/71frR/14 dated 01 10.71 , as reiterated in letter No,E(NG)l-86/TR/14 dated 06i01/BB Pursuant to a recommendation of the 5tn CPC, the scope of these instructions was further widened and Cetailed guidetines were issued vide this Ministry's letter No E(NG)1-97lTR/28 dated 05'1'1 97 in a consolidated form. 2. ln the context of the need to make concerled efforts to increase representation of women in Central Government jobs, these guidelines have been reviewed to see whether the instructions could be made manrJatory. it nut been decided vide Deptt of Personnel & Trainrng,s o M No 280341912009-Estt(A) dated 30,09 2009 that vrhen both spouses are In the same Central Servlce or working in same Deptt. and if posts are available, they may mandatorily be posted at the same station. 3. The guidelines, as framed by DOP&T in view of the 6rh cPC, have been examtned tn this Ministry ind it has been decided to adopt these with certlil rnodifications. Accordingly provisions of guidelines issued under Board's letter dated 5.11'97 ibid have been modified as under :' a. Where both the same senioritv units: The husband & wife, if working in the same Department and if the required level of post is available, should invariarbly be posted together tn order to enable them to lead a normal famrly life and look after the welfare of theirchildren especially till the childre,n attain Ihis will not apply on appointment under the central staffing scheme' Where only wiie is a Government servant, the above concessions shall l: fr:li#: lf;:hTli;: "fn, il:'13' b. dlfferent seniority units. ..21- - t . - Efforts may be made to post both the rarlway servants at the station where posts at appropriate level exist in the respeciive seniority unils farling which requests for change of the category may be corrsidered sympathetically keeping relevant rules in the matrer Where_one of the spouses is a railway servant qnC the othgr belonqs to All lndia Service or anothelCentfANefyjgg The Railway servant shoulcl be postecj at slation/place in ihe Railway/Division/PU in whose territorral jurisrJiction the place/state cf posting of his/her spouse falls or as close to it as possibie Railway Organization/post at the place/state of posting of the spouse Whercp Ltle ot[er belonqs to a state.service, The Railway servant should be posted at the station/place in the Railway/Division/PU in whose territorial jurisdiction the placeistate of posting of hisiher spouse falls. lf it is not possible, il'a request fronn the railway servant to the Controlling Authority of the spouse for hrs/her posting at the place of posting of the railway servant is rerceived the same may be fonvarded to the concerned authority for syn-rnathetic consideration e.
