# Introduction: (FOIS) 1. Why  FOIS has been developed ?

 To take care of the operational function (FOIS)
    to Freight Train Operations,
Yard Management and
Activities pertaining to Good Shed working.
 To keep the records of the trains,
loco movements and consignment details etc.

# How FOIS Works ?
The system consists of a large central system computer in Delhi and several smaller computers on the Zonal Railways.
The Central and Zonal Computers as well as, field terminals will be connected through extensive communication link to permit transfer of data.

# The objective and advantages of FOIS
FOIS is a reporting system, where goods working is made  computerized.
 It has been designed to give strategic advantages to both Indian Railways and its customers.

# Advantageous of FOIS
1. Global tracking of consignments in real time.
2 for timely planning and just in time inventory management.
3. Facilitate for acceptance of customer's orders,
4. Computer billing and cash accountal
3. Collection of freight through e-payment facility.

# Features of FOIS
1. Monitoring of all freight trains either by Railways or by goods customers
2. Details of Rakes/Wagons available in various yards, eliminating the need for costly manual documentation and tedious retrieval systems and inaccuracies.
3. Managerial reports regarding availability of rolling stock, i.e. wagons and locomotives at any instant of time to plan for their most efficient utilization.

4. The improved work environment has significantly simplified planning and execution of assigned tasks.

5. Interactive web based solutions to give customized reports to Railway Board, Zonal Railways and Divisions is in place

# Components of FOIS
It has two components namely:

1. RMS (Rake Management System)

2. TMS (Terminal Management System)

# RMS (Rake Management System):
Deals with operating activities such as:
1. Formation of a Rake
2. Dissipation of a Rake
3. Attachment and detachment of wagons from
      a rake
4. Attachment and detachment of Loco.

5. Running of Train in the system as per physical movement.
6. Inward number taking and operating placement of a rake
7. Handing/Taking over of Goods trains at Divisional/Zonal interchange points
8. Various queries pertaining to Rake management system.

# TMS (Terminal Management System)
TMS (Terminal Management System):- Deals with Commercial activities
All the commercial activities performed at Goods handling points can be reported in the TMS. Starting from Indent registration up to the task of printing of RR can be done using TMS facility.

# The major functions of Terminal Management System are :

1. Indent Registration with WDRF collection details
2. Forwarding Note preparation
3. Commercial placement of a Rake for loading/un-loading
4. Release of the Rake as loaded or empty as the case may be
5. Rebooking of a rake, if applicable

7. Feeding consignment removal details
8. Checking for automatic accrual of Demurrage and Wharfage charges
