FIRST EDITION
The Code of Discipline lays down certa1n criteria
for r e cognition of unions by th~ managen1ents on a
V9lunta ry basis. These criteria have be .• m further
clarified by the Indi an Labour confer ence. A procedure
for verification of membership of unions, to determine
their representative character, ha s also be~n approved
by the standing L a~our Comrni ttee.
For the oonvenience
of unions~ managements and verification vfficers all
the cecisions so f ar t aken on th~ sUbj ect have bedn
brought t ogether in this brochure in a classified f orm.
As r ecognition is gov0rned by statutes .in ~rtain states1
the relevant legal provisions have been given in the
appendices to this brochure, for the benf'fit of these
concerned.

accordance with the Criteria =or Recognition of Unions appen~
ded thereto .
The code provides for t~10 types of recognition.
