Five digit train numbering scheme.
Ref:
Board's letter of even number dated 15.9.2010 (Commercial Circular No.
46 of 2010).
In continuation of Board's letter referred to above and please find enclosed a cop~ of
Board's letter No. 2007/Chg-ll/22/2-Numbering dated 12.11.2010 alongwith enclosure on the
subject quoted above.
As a temporary measure, new numbers have been assigned to 59
trains, a list of which is also enclosed.

Zonal Railways should take necessary actton in this regard and arrange to fire the new
train numbers in the PRS immediately.

Please connect Board's letters referred above wherein all zonal railways were advised
that all the passenger carrying trains including the Budget annowlced trains which are yet to be
introduced, should be re-numbered as per the "Five digit train numbering scheme" and the new
. .trainnumbersshouldbe firedinthe PRS,NTESandupdatedin the COAand ICMSimmediately
to ensure the new train numbers are completed by' 15thof Sept. 2010 so as to made effe'ctive from
201hDec. 2010. Press release in this regard was published on 24.09.2010 in all leading'
newspapers.
The issue of link trains in the PRS running with alpha-numeric numbering bas remained
. unresolved. As a temporary measure, new numbers have been assigned to the list of 59 trains
enclosed)as a temporary measure with the proviso that necessary changes in the PRS software
will. be made to.define the link ttainsso
th~t they fit with the overall logic of the"new train'
numbering scheme.
