Commercial Circular No. 49 of 2009

Sub: Selection of stations as Adarsh Station

While presenting the Railway Budget 2009-10, Hon’ble MR has interalia

declared as under

i

“Madam, we will develop Adarsh stations with basic facilities such as
drinking water, adequate toilets, catering services, waiting rooms and
dormitories especially for lady passengers, better signage and other
basic facilities are universally available. This year we are taking up
375 stations for inclusion as Adarsh stations.”

2, A list of 358 stations selected as Adarsh stations is enclosed.

3 The matter regarding the passenger amenities etc. to be provided at Adarsh
stations has been examined and it has been decided that the focus should be on
‘improvement in all areas like ticketing, circulating area, signages, easy access and exit
and adequate lighting at the station. The station should also depict local ethos, if any,
or the architecture of the station may also replicate a local landmark building. As the
use of non-standard material equipment adversely affect the quality of work, RDSO is
already standardizing the designs and specifications of material and methods involved

‘in civil, S&T and electrical works, which will be circulated in due course. The thrust
areas for improvement is attached in the Annexure.

_ 4, While providing these amenities, the accent should be on providing for
passenger facility and convenience at an enhanced level, duly keeping local flavour,
- aesthetic and cost considerations in view.

5... In keeping with the Hon’ble MR’s announcement in Parliament, General

-. Managers may take immediate further action to programme these works under their
_ powers and try to complete most of the works within a year’s time.
