Introduction of Tourist Tickets in Mumbai Suburban area.
As announced by Minister of Railways while presenting the Railway Budget for
2007-08, Tourist Tickets in Mumbai Suburban Sections of Central & Western Railways
may be introduced as a pilot project, as under :
(i)
The basic fares and chargeable fares of these tickets will be as under :

Child ticket:
The basic fare of child tickets will be half the basic fares,
rounded off to next higher multiple of Rs. 5/-, wherever required. Other charges shall be
levied in full.
(iii)
Validity:
These tickets will be valid for (a) one day (in case of 1 day
tickets), (b) 3 days (in case of 3 day tickets) and 5 days (in case of 5 day tickets) to
travel any number of times, from any station to any station on the suburban sections of
Central and Western Railways of Mumbai. These tickets will be valid upto mid-night of
their date of validity. The date/dates of period of validity will be mentioned on each
ticket.
(iv)
Advance issue of tickets:
These tickets can be issued maximum 3
days in advance, excluding the first day of validity.
(v)
Concession: No concession will be admissible to anyone on these
tickets.
(vi)
Refund:
No refund will be admissible on unused/partially used
tourist tickets under any circumstance. However, tourist tickets booked in advance can
be cancelled after deducting usual clerkage charges, as mentioned in rule 213.4 of IRCA
Coaching Tariff No. 25, Part I (Vol. I), which at present is Rs. 10 for Second Class and
Rs. 20 for First Class. Such cancellation is permitted only before the first day of validity.
Besides, the period of validity of these tickets can not be increased under any
circumstance.

These instructions will come into effect w.e.f. 01.05.2007.

Tourist tickets, to be sold from Stations of Central & Western Railways in Mumbai
Suburban area, may accordingly be printed on top priority and supplied to all stations at
the earliest so that their sale can commence from 28.4.07 for journeys to commence on
1.5.07.

This scheme has been introduced as a Pilot Project for unlimited travel within
Mumbai Suburban Section only. Full accountal of tickets sold and revenue earned,
Class-wise, may be maintained separately for second & first classes and a monthly
statement sent to Board’s office.

Necessary instructions may be issued to all concerned immediately and
implementation ensured at all stations in Mumbai suburban section. Wide publicity
through various media may be given at regular intervals. This issues with the
concurrence of Finance Directorate of Ministry of Railways.
