Sub: Complimentary Card Passes issued to Defence personnel recipients of
Ashok Chakra - Validity in Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi Express trains.
Please find enclosed a copy of instructions issued by Establishment Directorate of Ministry of
Railways vide their letter No. E(W)2008/PS5-6/8 dated 9.4.2008 wherein it has been advised that
recipients of Ashok Charka awardees have been extended the facility of travel by Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Jan
Shatabdi trains as is available to recipients of Pram Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and Vir Chakra.
It is desired that recipient of Ashok Chakra awards may also be extended the facility of
reservation across the counter from the General Quota in Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi traffis on the
authority of First Class/2"* AC Complimentary Card passes for travel in 2% AC/3™ AC of Rajdhani
Express and Chair Car (CC) of Shatabdi/Jan shatadi Express trains along with a companion in the same
class, as is admissible to recipients of Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and Vir Chakra awardees as
per Board’s instructions of even number dated 26.03:2003(Commercial Circular No. 18 of 2003).

Instructions were issued vide Railway Board’s letters dated 23.02.96 and
04.07.96 referred to above, for grant of First Class/2™ AC Complimentary Card
Passes to Defence personnel recipients of Gallantry awards of Chakra Series
and widows of posthumous Gallantry awardees of Chakra Series viz Param Vir
Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and
Shourya Chakra, alongwith a companion, available for travel from any Railway _
Station to any Railway Station on Indian Railways (except Metro
Railway/Kolkata) by any train except Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains.
Subsequently, in terms of instructions contained in Board’s letter dated
25.02.2003, the Complimentary Card Passes issued to recipients and widows cf
posthumous awardees of Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and Vir Chak:
