(COMMERCIAL CIRCULAR NO. 2°77 / 2004) In pursuance of the announcement made by the then MR while presenting the Vote on Account for Railways for the financial year 2004-05, to provide internet-based rail reservation through mobile phones, IRCTC worked out a scheme for rail reservation through mobile phones The scheme has been examined and Ministry of Raliways has approved the request of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to permit users to access internet-based railway reservation system through mobile phones The essential common feature of the mobile phone-based scheme is that it will enable customers to do rail reservation on the internet through their mobile phones. There will be no change, as a result of such applications, in the manner in which IRCTC’s internet booking is done or in the processes and procedures currently in force for cancellation etc. IRCTC will ensure that al! the operators are offered the facility on equal and non-discriminatory basis. IRCTC will take steps under information to Ministry of Railways to ensure that the interest of the passenger is protected.
