Sub: Policy on Reservation of berths/seats.

Please refer to Commercial Circular No. 6 of 1999 circulated vide this Office letter of
even number dated 21.04.1999 on the subject quoted above wherein a detailed policy on
reservation of berths/seats was enclosed. In para 6(i) of the Policy enclosed, it has been
mentioned that each train should be defined on one PRS only. For example, in the case
of 2311 Howrah-Kalka Mail, it would be defined on the Calcutta PRS and in the reverse
direction 2312 will be defined on the Northern Railway PRS. This aspect was being
delayed for want of 64 KBPS links. —

C&IS Directorate of Board’s office has informed that the work for providing
additional 64 KBPS links for PRS back bone network is underway and full links are
likely to be commissioned by 31.03.2001. Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) desire
that all Zonal Railways should take action for defining one train in one PRS by

30.04.2001.
