# Palace on Wheels
Concept derives from the royal background of the coaches
Once Personal carriage of the former rulers of the princely states of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India.
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways refurbished and launched a special heritage tourist Train in 1982.
1980s – Metre Gauge – AC Cabins with sharing bathrooms
1996  - Broad Gauge – All cabins having private attached bathrooms
2017  - New Train carriage – more spacious in size

Self Sufficient and fully Air Conditioned.
Spacious Deluxe cabins with attached bathrooms, a personal butler (Khidmatgars), amenities that include 2 restaurants, a lounge bar and a spa
Carriages uniquely named after famous Palaces & Forts of Rajasthan viz., Hawa Mahal, Moti Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Jal Mahal, Kumbha Palace, Umaid Palace, Sukh Mahal, Padmini Mahal, Surya Mahal, Jogi Mahal, Kishori Mahal, Lalgarh Palace and Phool Mahal
Two Dining Cars called Maharaja and Maharani – attached Kitchen saloon
Voted the 4th best luxury train in the world

Worked from Howrah to Raniganj (121 miles) on EIR
1895 – Christened as ‘Fairy Queen’
1997  - Rolled from Delhi to Alwar
1998  - Certified as the World’s oldest working locomotive in Guinness Book of Records.
